Hatred has no place at Springfield College. As a campus community, we have the fortitude and courage to end hate. In fall 2020, a group of students, faculty, and staff came together to discuss ways that we as a community could be more welcoming and inclusive.
Because hatred has no place here, we have chosen to launch a campaign titled "Educate. End Hate." We welcome community engagement and involvement in making Springfield College a place where all feel safe, welcomed, and affirmed.
Springfield College is a participating institution that believes in communicating the statement that #YouAreWelcomeHere. We welcome international students from around the world and affirm that our institution embraces diversity and offers a friendly and safe environment committed to student development.
The Springfield College All-College Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is composed of students and employees who are committed to reducing inequality faced by LGBTQ+ people at Springfield College and beyond. This includes (but is not limited to) gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender, and gender nonconforming people. We have an email list, meet once every two to three weeks, generate campus programming, and engage in other activities. For more information, please contact David McMahon at dmcmahon@springfield.edu or Charlene Elvers at celvers@springfield.edu.
Safe Zone helps to create a more accepting, affirming, supportive, inclusive, and equal environment for LGBTQ individuals at Springfield College through educational training sessions for faculty members, staff members, and students. Sessions are designed to generate greater awareness, knowledge, empathy, and commitment to action regarding issues, concerns, and inequality related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
Springfield College is committed to valuing and validating the gender identity and expression of members of the campus community. For more information about gender pronouns and how to use gender inclusive language, click here.
